Lost Pines Campout, Bastrop Texas

On Sunday July 9th, scouts and the adult leaders set off for Lost Pines in Bastrop. About 27 scouts attended the campout and we were the largest troop there. Our troop won the Super Troop award by completing multiple requirements provided by the camp. We had a few scouts wake up even earlier than everyone else did, which was hard enough already, to do the Mile Swim in the pool. We also had many scouts from our troop go on the Wilderness Survival Night on Wednesday, where everyone built their own shelter out of sticks and plants and sleep in it for the night.

The camp staff was really fun to be around. For example they played music during meals that you could dance to. The staff also highly emphasized drinking “Lots and lots and lots of water.” It was very easy to get dehydrated out there in the heat.

There was a trading post, where you would buy merit badge items, knives, etc. and a cantina, where you would buy snacks.

The camp also had a great waterfront with a blob, sailing, canoeing, rowing, motor boating, and watersports (Waterskiing and wakeboarding) which you could do if you had the merit badge or if you wanted to go during your free period. Unfortunately the lake wasn’t safe to just swim around in because it was hot and had bacteria growing in it. The pool, though, was very large and we used it a lot.

The weather was good with just one rain shower. The mosquitoes were busy trying to nab anyone without repellent.
